Low Carb Diet Tips: How to Fight Intestinal Problems Easily - Part I

Diseases such as constipation and diarrhea are not uncommon. They happen to everybody, especially when you go for a major change of diet, such as switching from a high carb to a low carb diet. Diarrhea happens mostly to low carbers because when you are on a low carb diet, your body produces fewer carbohydrates and more ketones. Low carbers also suffer from constipation. However, it should be noted that constipation doesn't stem directly from a low carb diet regimen. In fact, constipation is caused when your body receives less than the required amount of carbohydrates. Foods such as legumes, pulses and whole grains contain a lot of fiber but unfortunately, these foods are strictly prohibited during the early periods of the low carb program. In this article I will tell you how to fight back constipation and diarrhea and regain your normal health.

How to Fight Constipation:

Let me tell you one thing upfront: if your previous diet was full of sugar and starchy foods, it would take sometime before you can adjust yourself to a low carb diet. However, constipation is not directly associated with low carb diet. In fact, it is a different kind of a problem, and can be caused by a combination of problems. Most commonly, constipation is caused because of fiber deficiency. To give your body the required amount of fiber, you need to eat fresh fruits and vegetables. Also drink lots of water every day. And never ever buy over-the-counter pills, especially pain-killers, codeine and other opiates, as well as antidepressants, iron pills and diuretics. These drugs have certain ingredients in them which cause constipation.

If you want to cure constipation permanently, laxatives won't help either. It is OK to use laxatives for a short time, but for long term I would use a stool softener such as Docusate, which are non-addictive and easily absorbed in the body.

Another way to cure constipation is to eat fiber supplements such as sugar-free Metamucil, or plain psyllium husks, which will force the bowel to move forward. Note however that you should eat this fiber supplement only with water; otherwise it will have negative effects on your body.

Another way to cure constipation is to do exercises regularly. Because when you do exercises, your whole body starts moving, and consequently, your bowel too starts moving! You can also practice yoga as it has been found to be helpful for constipation patients.

In the second part of this article, I will tell you how to cure diarrhea and irritable bowel syndrome (ibs), as well as how to find good low carb food products. To access the second part, simply click on the link in my resource box below.

Win Back Your Life By Running

Running is one of the most popular exercise programs available. And it can be good for just about anybody. Running, as a way of life, can be enjoyable and a source of good health. If you are wondering how running can contribute to your lifestyle, well, there is just not enough space to list all the benefits. But here's a few.

Strengthens Muscles And Bones

Have you heard of atrophy? Well, basically it is the wasting away or the decrease in size of particular parts or tissues in the body. Somehow, this concept applies to your muscles and bones whenever you neglect to use them. Most tissues in your body need to feel that they are needed; otherwise, when they do not get the level of demand that they require, they become weaker and they are simply wasted away.

You see, spending all your time in front of the TV or computer screen would create signals in your system that you do not have much need for some of your muscle and bone tissues. Overtime, those muscles and bones that you do not use will decrease in size and become weaker and brittle. Running, as an exercise, has been proven to put most of your muscles and bones to good use. In fact, it has also been found to stimulate the production of growth hormones that fuel the growth and development of stronger tissues in the body.

Busts Stress And Tensions

Somehow, running can help you deal with stress from your work, school, or even your home. Going for several miles allows you to have the time to contemplate on many problems and areas of your life. Running for an hour or two gives you ample time to clear your thoughts and emotions; you can even increase your speed or the intensity of your run to vent trapped anger or frustrations. This may be the reason why, statistically speaking, most runners have a positive take on their careers and life in general.

Works Against Diseases

Various studies have shown that running can help you fight off debilitating diseases such as stroke and diabetes. There are many doctors who prescribe running as a regular form of exercise for patients who wish to combat osteoporosis and hypertension. As a cardiovascular workout, running can help you build up a stronger heart and keep your arteries considerably elastic no matter how old you are. And of course, just like any exercise, it helps you fortify your immune system by flushing out disease-causing toxins.

Keeps Your Body In Shape

More often than not, people who are in a running program have a single goal in mind; and that is to shed off unwanted pounds. Indeed, this form of exercise is one of the simplest ways of attaining or maintaining a shapely body. It can help you burn a lot of calories per minute without using any fancy gadget. All you need is a good pair of running shoes and you are ready to go for miles.

So if you are overweight or you just want to get rid of the flab on your sides, you can try running as a form of cardiovascular workout. It is definitely safe and it won't require you to spend a lot of money on equipment; the best part about running is that there are no membership fees.

Tones Your Legs

The part in which running can have the biggest impact is your legs. And why not? Running is basically moving your legs rapidly. This exercise can help you attain beautiful and well-toned legs that you would be proud to show off.

But remember, the shape of your legs is not enough to make it look attractive. Do not forget to deal with the flaws on the skin of your legs; even running can not help you with this. For pesky spider veins, you can use products like Veinuderm. For more information about eliminating spider veins and other spots on your legs, visit http://Veinuderm.com/

What have you done in the past to burn fat fast? Most likely you have not had the success you are looking for otherwise you would not be reading this weight loss article.

There are a couple of things that you must take into consideration in order for you to burn fat fast:

  • Increase your high fiber foods: Fiber is great for burning fat and is great for our overall health. Begin eating more wheat, and salads and this will increase your fiber intake.
  • Watch Your Portions: We as a society tend to overeat. You must learn how to eat smaller portions; anyone who has been on any kind of weight loss program will tell you that the smaller mini meals you eat are better for burning fat than sitting there eating one big meal. However if you currently skip meals to avoid eating; this is something you must begin to change. You can not let your body go into a starving mode, it will begin to burn muscle not fat and you do not want to burn your muscle.
  • Exercise Regularly: We hear it everyday from our doctors to exercise on a regular basis. Your body was meant to fight off all kinds of diseases and sicknesses; however if you do not give it the proper exercises and food you can not expect it to work properly.
  • Do Not Eat Late Dinners: You should not eat past 7:00 p.m. in the evenings. Your metabolism slows down in the evenings because your body is in a relaxing mode. If you feed it late in the evening before you go to sleep; your body will not have enough time to digest the dinner. In order to burn fat fast, stick to a eating routine that will let your body digest the food properly.

You can burn fat fast if you are willing to stick to a plan. However if you start something and then quit you will never lose the weight you want to. No matter if you want to lose just 10 pounds or if you want to lose 100 pounds, you have to find something that works for you. You have to set goals and know why you want to lose the weight. You can not do it for anyone but yourself. Just because something did not work for you in the past, does not mean that nothing will work for you. You must be willing to try new things, success in life never comes to people who are not willing to try new things.

71 Weight Loss Tips - Surefire Success Strategies for All of Us

I'm often asked if I'm familiar with the 71 weight loss tips, and if I can "explain" what exactly they are. It's interesting how urban legends can spread, and especially online, this diverse set of inspirational ideas and quotes related to weight loss has taken on the sheen of a mystical guidebook for melting away the weight. It's not... What this simple text document does do is highlight the very best lessons that a whole cross-section of people from different walks of life have learned in their quest for an improved body image and self transformation.

I'm not sure who originally posted them, but you can find them in simple blogs everywhere, reprinted freely - and for the most part are comprised of little self help affirmations like - " take it slow - you didn't gain all the weight in one weekend, so you surely won't lose it all that way either" .

Other pointers are - "find a passion" and " it won't work until you do it for yourself" and things of that nature. Very simple, straightforward advice and heartfelt assimilations of the collective wisdom of many. But, contrary to many who ask for an opinion on them, there really isn't ANYTHING to opine about... I am in complete and full agreement with anything and everything that inspires, motivates, moves and coerces you to take action and attack your weight problems.

The central point always is, and always will be this. You have to take action, and whatever leads to that place is exactly what will work for you. Timing is often key. When people get to the point of their lives where absolute desperation kicks in regarding their bodies, their health and their futures...my experience tells me that is EXACTLY when the motivational motor kicks into high gear! I'm hoping you are there today - but if not, I'm willing to keep trying to inspire you to get there.

How Many Calories Should I Eat To Lose Weight?

One of the main question that I've been asked many times by clients is 'How many calories should I eat to lose weight'. The moment I hear this question, I know I have another uphill task. People who have been exposed to calorie concept (i.e. Eat less, stay slim) don't want to get away from this idea/belief.

Most people understand if they burn 3500 calories and they'll lose 1 pound of weight. So if they plan to lose 10 pounds all they need is to burn 35,000 calories. They seems very basic and simple to understand, no wonder people love this belief to death. but my question is

When you burn these calories, you'll burn 1 pound of WHAT?

Now here's the twister for you. I said you'll lose 1 pound of weight, that means you'll lose water weight and muscles (not fat). You don't lose fat by exercising. Think of fat loss as a side effect of exercising. Now whenever you lose muscles, you are slowing down your metabolism. Which means your body will burn less calories per day when you are not working out.

Did you knew that one pound of muscle burns 50 calories per day without exercising?

If you add 10 pound of new muscles in your body, you'll burn 500 calories per day, 3500 calories per week. Oh, by the way, if you add muscles and lose fat, you'll look not only slimmer but also younger. Now we comes to main question...

How many calories you should eat?

This question has been nightmare of most of the fitness trainer I know of... Because the answer is "It depends" on what you eat. If you get all the calories from Veggies, fruits and other healthy foods, then you can eat more calories sometimes you can even eat 3000 calories and still lose ton of weight. If you eat in fast food joints all day, then you have no other choice than dropping calorie...

I know people who have been eating clean and eating more than 3500 calories and yet they were losing fat. The reason is very simple, their body never experienced a nutrition rich state and when they get all the nutrition, their body burns useless fat like butter on hot stove.

So in the end choice is yours, do you want to just lose weight or want a toned body with new younger you.

How To Lose Abdominal Fat Review

Fat in the middle of your stomach. Its the most disturbing thing to look at. Its the toughest weight to lose. So how do you do it? How do you lose abdominal fat?

First, its important to understand that crunches and sit-ups are not going to get the job done. Why? Because generally those two exercises are not fat burners, theyre designed to sculpt and shape abdominal muscles. You need to lose fat.

Second, you cannot spot reduce fat, which means that even if you did a whole bunch of those two movements, its still very unlikely that youd lose much abdominal fat. You might get those muscles tighter, which might make you believe youre actually losing weight. But thats fools gold. Youve simply tightened the muscle under the abdominal fat.

Now that isnt necessarily a bad thing. In fact, it may be all youre truly looking for, a little firmer tummy. However, if youre looking for more, say a stomach that is tight and shapely, a mid-section that makes other people green with envy, then you need to engage in the following three activities.

Activity 1: Begin walking 30-45 minutes a day after dinner, and lose weight quicker. Dinner is your last big meal of the day and you want to get a jump start on working it through without having some of what you ate begin stored as fat. You can start out with less time, and then add as you become accustom to walking. But make sure to begin.

Activity 2: Drink more water. There is significant evidence that shows weight loss is a dehydration process. You need water to dehydrate your fat cells. Without enough water your body cannot efficiently lose weight. The pudginess on your stomach is not all abdominal fat; youre holding a lot of water, too. Extra water eliminates the bloated look.

Activity 3: Get brutally honest with yourself. Many people claim they got serious about their weight loss efforts after they saw a picture that someone else had taken. We think that we look a certain way, which is to say Maybe a little overweight, but certainly not fat. Usually our perception of how we look is one thing, and reality is another.

Take a good long look in the mirror at yourself naked 3-4 times a week. Do this to soak in the reality of your situation. Dont get angry at yourself, just accept that you need to lose weight. Accept that life will be a whole lot more exciting when you do lose the weight. Use the reflection to create an urgency to get your body how youd like it to be. Lose weight, lose abdominal fat, lose lower back fat, and get your body in its absolute best shape ever!

How to Get Super Skinny!

Losing weight can be difficult, and when you're talking about those last few pounds to make yourself super skinny, it can be especially hard. The truth is that starving yourself or eating less won't necessarily do the trick. The solutions has to be a combination of balanced, nutritious meals along with exercise at least three times a week. Sticking to a good diet and steady exercise can be hard but it is essential if you want to become super skinny!

Eat more balanced - more often!

The trick to losing that fat is to eat more balanced meals, and eat them more often. and still get daily exercise. You can eat just about anything as long as it's nutritious and in good portion. Smaller meals still satisfy your hunger but keep your metabolism up so that your body can be a fat-burning machine. Eating right and exercising is the key to feeling and looking great.

Don't skip meals - ever!

The most frequent mistake people make when trying to get super skinny is thinking that not eating will solve their problems. If you don't eat you won't have any energy to exercise and this will not lead to weight loss. It's important to get the idea of starving yourself out of your thoughts right away and commit to a healthy means of losing weight.

The body doesn't function without the proper nutrients it gets from your food. With insufficient food, your metabolism slows down drastically to compensate for the lack of food. So, you're actually doing more harm than good when you don't eat. And, any weight you lose will just be water weight.

So, why is it SO hard to get super skinny?

Why does it seem so difficult to get super skinny, but maintaining weight can be so simple for a lot of people? Most of the time, when people exercise they aren't being as efficient as they could be. They stop between exercises, rather than just laying back a little bit, and this will drastically slow down the fat-burning process. That burning sensation is a good thing!

Commit to a lifestyle change!

It's important to make a commitment that this is the day you change. Put down the potato chips and pick up some carrots or celery! Slowly add some healthy changes into your diet and build up your stamina by exercising for at least 20 minutes every day. If you keep up with a plan you'll be guaranteed to see the results!

Getting Back In Shape - How To Do It

Does your stomach upset you? Maybe you wish to make an impression upon people by building up muscle, or maybe you long to be in better shape. However you feel, if you do not embark on taking action without delay, your dream will not be turned into a reality. Even if you loathe exercising, this article will assist you in getting back on the fitness track.

It is essential, in order to remain focused, that you are prepared to do what it takes to get back onto the fitness track. Allow me to explain. In order to lose weight or gain muscle, or accomplish whatever goals you may have, you have to want to do it. Once you have made the decision to do this, you then need to prepare you plan of attack. There are many available resources that you can study for tips and ideas. You can visit your local book store where you will find an array of fitness magazines and books that will supply you with the information that you require. Cable channels also offer great information and ideas. Select some exciting exercise workouts that you know that you can complete and stick to.

Consequently, you may have purchased some magazines and books and worked out some good exercise routines. This is all well and good, but you need to put it into action. Generate a plan for the purposes of working around your schedule. If your plan appears to be too much, then break it down a little. If you are planning on attending the gym, then ensure that you spend more than an hour in there. Of course, it is great if you are experienced with fitness regimes etc. but if you are a beginner then you need to find the motivation to begin and keep going. Take action when attending the gym. I have, on many occasions, been to the gym and witnessed people just sitting around doing nothing. This doesn't work up a sweat and I am sure that you will agree, you do not wish to pay for a gym membership and not put it to full use.

Never allow an ego to come between you and your workout. It is important that you remember that you are not attending the gym in order to impress anyone. You are there to become healthier. Once that is fixed into the back of your mind, it will be possible for you to go a great deal further.

With any luck, this article has given you food for thought on the different ways that you can get your exercise routines back on track. One last thing that must be mentioned is, when it comes the time for a day off, then enjoy that day, but ensure that you get straight back into the gym. Whilst it does feel great not to work out, you really are not helping yourself. Thank yourself later by taking action today.

Weight Loss Tips - Three Foods You Must Avoid Like The Plague

You're about to discover three types of food that you should avoid like the plague, unless you really like putting on weight. So here they are...

1. Hydrogenated Oils (Trans Fats) and Partially Hydrogenated Oils

The process of hydrogenation started in the 1950s to extend packed food shelf life. Hydrogenation is the process of heating oil and passing hydrogen bubbles through it. The fatty acids in the oil then acquire some of the hydrogen, which makes it denser.

If you fully hydrogenate, you create a solid (a fat) out of the oil. But if you stop part way, you get a semi-solid partially hydrogenated oil that has a consistency like butter, but much cheaper. These fats also called, trans-fats, disguise themselves as regular fats, and build up in your arteries.

The difference is that they don't do the same job as the regular fats in your body do, so instead of escorting poisons and toxins to your liver and protecting your body, they hang around, build on your arteries and cause heart disease and arteriosclerosis. Trans-fats are poisons. They interfere with the metabolic process by taking the place of a natural substance (good fats) that performs a critical function.

Your body has no defense against them. And get this... Many European countries have either BANNED or have set dates for ELIMINATION of hydrogenated oils in foods! Hydrogenated oils are found in almost all packaged foods. Take a look at the ingredients the next time you are at the grocery store and you will see just how prevalent these are in the foods you eat.

2. Coffee

Cringe.... Yes, coffee contains caffeine--a diuretic--that increases the frequency of urination which causes dehydration. It keeps you awake, elevates your heart rate, blood pressure and increases the secretion of acid into your stomach... blah, blah, blah. What concerns me most is that coffee puts stress on your adrenal system. This translates to more stress. Aren't you under enough stress already?

Coffee drinkers tend to use the drink as a pick-me-up, but what happens is that it becomes a drag-me-down, because the body, while it experiences a short caffeine buzz, drops to a lower energy level when the high wears off. At this lover level, you're not only feeling down, but you're burning your sugar stores. This creates sugar cravings.

3. Soda

Soda is simply sugar. I can't tell you how many people I've known who quit drinking soda shed a bunch of weight. I don't mean 1-2 pounds, I mean 10-15. There are 250 calories in a 20-oz bottle of Coke. Not to mention there is caffeine! Take the effects of caffeine and add them to a sugar overload and you have one unhealthy body. Do you drink soda and coffee?!

If so, and you want more energy, I will tell you right now that dropping those two poisonous habits will improve your daily stamina by 100%! So keep that in mind when you're trying to lose weight.

Weight Loss Meal Replacement Shakes

With the obesity epidemic we are experiencing today in the Western World, there has been a proliferation of programs and associated websites dedicated to weight loss.

Some of these products work and some of them don't. There is no denying that weight loss is hard, and requires some work. The trouble is finding the supplement that will help you with your weight loss goals.

Some of the options include diet pills and diet supplements. The problem with this is that you have to have extensive knowledge of your body type and fat content.

There are also many meal replacement shakes available but many of these can be very expensive. Often times, these shakes can also be high in sodium and preservatives which can cause other health problems.

With all this confusion, many people just give up. Some people wish to lose weight but do not want a high chemical diet to achieve their goals. Many people may be worried about side-effects attached to some high chemical supplements.

The answer for these people is an all natural supplement such as Flex Protex or Rice N Shine.

Throughout history, civilizations have used herbal remedies for weight loss and other medical ailments. If you are looking to lose weight with a herbal remedy, you need something that s a specially designed nutritional formula which delivers high quality protein, is low in active carbohydrates, high in good quality fiber and vital fats, including the omega 3 and omega 6 essential fatty acids along with phytosterols, which support heart health.

There are herbal weight loss nutritional supplements on the market today that naturally suppress hunger and cravings for all the foods that have made some people gain weight.

However, with a diet replacement shake or supplement, you need to ensure it contains all the requirements mentioned above to ensure a healthy body and you have fulfilled your daily vitamin and mineral requirements.

As well as the possibility of using meal replacement shakes, there are many other herbal options you can consider.

Green tea has been used in Asian cultures for centuries for its health benefits and has many weight loss benefits as part of a healthy diet. It also tastes great.

If you do a search on weight loss through any internet search engine, you will get millions of results. Many of sites will have testimonials from people that this may have worked for.

However, you should not buy the first product you come across, you should do extensive research and pick a product that is full of natural ingredients that will help with weight loss but still help you maintain a healthy diet.

Consider a natural supplement such as Rice N Shine for increasing your brain power. http://www.1thinkhealthy.com/rice-n-shine.html Lambert Klein is the owner of Think Healthy Supplements

Is Emotional Eating Causing You to Blow Your Healthy Weight Loss Plan?

Youve done everything right this time. Youre eating lots of salad, fruit, and protein; using only low fat dressings and even staying away from white flour and refined sugar.

But thenyou have an argument with your spouse. You are bored, stressed, depressed and giving up. You walk by the pantry and see nothing that will satisfy the sudden urge for sugar, salt, potato chips, candy, or whatever your particular poison of choice. So you go down to the grocery store and find what you need, go home and pig out! Maybe you dont need to go to the store... maybe youve thought ahead because you knew this moment would come and you have a secret cabinet with all kinds of binge eating goodies!

Ok, well that might be a little dramatic. But most people have found themselves following a good, healthy diet and all of a sudden, because of some emotional upheaval, theyve found themselves in the middle of an overeating binge. It can really blow your whole healthy eating plan. So whats happening when you find yourself in this situation? And how can you stop emotional eating?

First of all, when you go on an emotional eating binge, strong emotions are causing you to experience stress. This is when your body goes into fight or flight response. You either fightor you fly. All your energy is directed towards one of these responses. Cortisol is released and normally, this causes the energy exerted in fighting or flying to be replaced with an increase in appetite. You are supposed to eat to replace the energy burned.

However, in modern-day times, we are unable to follow through with the fight or flight response. Everything happens as it is designed to happen, except that instead of energy being burned, it is stuffed and we are left with an urge to eat.

So what can you do to stop emotional eating? I have found a very helpful book, Lose It For Life written by Stephen Arterburn and Dr. Linda Mintle, who suggest making a list of alternate activities when you find yourself in such a situation, such as taking a walk, take three deep breaths or call a friend. One other very effective way to battle these urges is to pray. As a Christian, when I find myself having a problem with unpleasant emtions, I seek release and find strength when I turn to God. A moment of prayer can really help you find the balance you need to continue with your healthy weight loss plan.

Sometimes we turn to food out of loneliness or boredom. The same technique could apply. Talking to your friend or playing with your dog could be infinitely more interesting than stuffing your face with a cookie.

Moms & Fitness - Tips for the Busy Mom

Some moms have a busy lifestyle. They cook, they clean, and they drive their children to classes. They teach, they referee, and the list goes on.

If you're a mom, you know how to get things done for everyone else, but chances are, you don't take time to take care of your self. While busy schedules keep moms on the go, moms find themselves without much time for fitness.

School schedules and car pools combined with household tasks and a full-time job don't leave mom much time for moms to get the full benefits of exercise.

Moms manage to squeeze in dentist appointments for their children and can make time to show up, without a moment to spare, at a class play, mentioned at the last minute. Super mom can somehow manage to find time to do the things she needs to do to successfully manage her schedule, keeping everyone happy.

The "I don't have time to exercise" isn't a good excuse. If you really want to find time for fitness and exercise, there are many things you can do.

Finding time to take care of your self, with plenty of rest and exercise, should be one of those things you do for yourself without hesitation. Schedule the time in your day planner or make a note on the dry-erase board your "me-time." Procrastination is a word that has no meaning for moms when it comes to taking care of your children. The same should apply for making time for fitness.

Diversify your fitness schedule to include solo walks, a quick round of tennis, or horseback riding with the one you love. Be creative in planning your schedule.

If you know on Monday you have to pick up one child at 2:00, but you have to pick the other one up thirty minutes later, make good use of the time between pickups. You could toss your walking shoes in the car, having them ready to slip on when you pick up the child at 2:00. Both of you could take a short walk while you wait for the second child. If your daughter has a practice 25 minutes across town at the high school, you could take your swimsuit and use the school's swimming pool to swim a few laps. Most schools don't mind you using the pool if you call ahead. Some offer free swims on certain days of the week. If your son's football practice is held over 45 minutes, continue walking around the track until you hear him tell you, "Mom, I'm ready to go now."

The important thing to remember is, because you are a mom, you may have to jump in and take advantage of a thirty-minute window to have time for fitness. Be prepared for those opportunities and learn to expect the unexpected, taking care to use those extra few minutes wisely. The results will amaze you.

Does Water Help To Loss Weight?

A common question amongst dieters today is: "Does water help to loss weight?". It's true it does! But before we get into the specifics, it's VERY important for you to understand that there is a huge misconception about water and weight loss. This misconception is that many people think that water causes excess weight to appear and the answer to losing weight fast is to drink less. This is WRONG!

It is extremely important that the body be hydrated at all times! Drinking water is one of the most important elements of living a healthy life as well as losing weight! When you drink water, you clean your body, you hydrate it and fuel it to continue performing well. This includes digestion, blood circulation, energy and so much more!

So how does water help to loss weight? Well here's how. If you drink regular water 8 times a day, you can help clean your body from the inside. A lot of times unhealthy substances do not get properly digested and begin to decay inside the body and water will help flush it out of your body!

Again, all it takes to see weight loss results with water is to just drink it 8 times a day. Now a common mistake people make is they drink "sports drinks" such as Gatorade and think that is a much better substitute than water. It isn't. Gatorade, sports drinks, mass produced juices, sodas and popular drinks are all processed and unnatural. When you drink it, your body is not being properly hydrated. It requires water and not some bootleg version of it. It is important that you stop drinking these things!

Drinking 8 glasses of water per day can help restore your health greatly. If you want to enjoy a healthy drink that is sweet, you can always drink tea and use honey as a sweetener! The less processed drinks you consume and the more water you drink, the healthier your body will get. And the healthier it gets, the better it performs which WILL lead to weight loss. It's a simple health chain! Generally people can see weight loss results from drinking water in about 3-4 weeks.

Drinking water to lose weight is 1 of the 10 easiest ways to lose weight naturally and safely. However there are many other methods which are just as simple and even more effective at helping people lose weight fast and safely. 3 Keys To Washboard Abs

While my primary focus (and recommendation) is strength training for the sake of gaining functional strength, there's no denying that a majority of people want to know how to get washboard abs. Male or female, washboard abs are often a big fitness goal.

So, here's a basic overview of how to get washboard abs, broken down into three elements: Nutrition, strength training, and cardio. Now before you take off, this won't be all the same stuff you've already read a hundred times - and will offer some tips you can use now.

Nutrition

The first and most important element in losing the fat covering your abs is your diet. You have to eat well. It's not as difficult as you may think, and you don't have to starve yourself. Even a simple change resulting in 300 fewer calories a day will make a difference when combined with the other two elements discussed below.

For a simple start, here are a few (simplified) tips:

  • Stop drinking your calories (cut out soft drinks)
  • Eat less white food (cut back on processed carbs)
  • Eat more fruits & veggies
  • Eat enough lean protein (aim for 1 gram per two pounds of bodyweight)

Just remember, it's much easier to NOT eat that piece of cheesecake than it is to burn it off later!

Strength Training

The absence of strength training is a major problem with a lot of weight loss programs. In addition to building strength, strength training also firms, tones, and builds your muscles. By building muscle, you naturally raise your metabolism. Muscle uses more calories than fat, so more muscle means more fat burning - even at rest. And don't worry ladies, you won't bulk up. For the average female, washboard abs often aren't the goal - just a slim tummy. That's OK, the process is the same.

For a strength training workout, stick with mulit-joint full-body exercises when possible. I recommend circuit training. Circuit training allows you to get a great strength workout in a short period of time, while burning calories very effectively. It's perfect if your goal is to firm up. However, it's not optimal if you're really trying to gain strength or muscle mass, which would call for more specified programs.

On to some exercises for washboard abs. You don't need to do crunches 'til the cows come home. That's not how to get washboard abs. In fact, don't do crunches or situps. Start with simple drills like the plank, side plank (and their variations), bird dog, etc. If you train with kettlebells, the Turkish Get-Up and windmill are excellent exercises.

Cardio

Last but not least is the cardio element. I don't like that terminology, but we all know what it means. Basically, it involves getting your heart rate up for a period of time, exercising the heart and lungs, and burning fat.

However, forget about hanging out on the treadmill or stationary bike for an hour. There's a better way - interval training. Interval training consists of mixing brief high-intensity activity with brief periods of rest. Tests have shown that interval training can be up to TWICE as effective as traditional cardio.

Here's a sample interval training workout:

  • Warmup (5 minutes)
  • Jog on treadmill (2 minutes)
  • Sprint on treadmill (1 minute)
  • Repeat Jog/Sprint set 3-5 times
  • Cooldown (walk for 5 minutes)

Your sprint time should be very intense, where your jog time should be a very relaxed pace. The idea is to put out an all-out effort (for your fitness level) for a short period, followed by an active rest period until you've just about caught your breath, then back to the all-out effort. A great deal of the effectiveness of interval training comes from repeatedly shocking your system in this way.

It's the combination of these three elements that will help you meet your goal of washboard abs. Good abs come from firm muscle and low body fat. The strength training aspect offers the muscle, while the nutrition and cardio work together to control your calories, dropping your body fat. In addition, the strength and cardio elements can often be combined, making for shorter workouts than traditional programs - and they can be done at home.

Finally, keep in mind that a nice-looking body will come naturally from a lifestyle of good nutrition and exercise. In other words, if you make your goal health and strength, the looks will be a natural, welcome side effect!

Weight Loss Surgery - Possible Complications and Risks

Any type of surgery comes with a certain degree of risk, and weight loss surgery (also known as bariatric surgery) is no different. But what are the potential complications of weight loss surgery, and how common are they? We will attempt to answer these questions here.

What is Weight Loss Surgery?
Before we talk about the possible complications of weight loss surgery, we need to define what this type of surgery entails, just so we are on the same page. Simply stated, bariatric surgery and weight loss surgery both refer to the same thing -- various types of surgery intended to help obese patients lose weight.

In her book The Patients Guide to Weight Loss Surgery, author April Hochstrasser defines bariatric surgery as "surgery on the stomach and/or intestines to help people lose weight by altering the normal digestive process."

Complications of Weight Loss Surgery
The complications associated with weight loss surgery vary, based on the type of surgery being performed. And, of course, the potential risks and complications of general surgery apply here as well.

Potential complications of general surgery:

  • Respiratory problems
  • Risk of infection (from incision area)
  • Excessive bleeding (internal or external)
  • Allergic reaction to medicines
  • Reactions to anesthesia

Potential complications of weight loss surgery:

  • Leaking of stomach acid or bacteria into the abdominal cavity
  • Vitamin and mineral deficiencies as a result of malabsorption
  • Hernia in the abdominal wall (with gastric bypass)
  • Dumping syndrome (heart palpitations, nausea, sweating, etc.)

The major risks of weight loss surgery:

  • Leaking of stomach content into other areas
  • Blood clots
  • Respiratory failure

According to the University of Iowa report "Mortality in Obesity Surgery," the majority of patients who die within a month of weight loss surgery suffer one of the three major complications above.

The Liver - An Important Key To Natural Weight Loss

You may be aware that the liver is an important organ in keeping you healthy, but many people fail to recognize the importance of the liver in weight loss. While the liver is needed to detoxify various chemicals such as alcohol and drugs, it also has critical functions in the production and/or activation of many hormones - including all of the hormones involved in your ability to burn fat. Natural weight loss is dramatically impaired if the liver is not working efficiently.

Due to chronic abuse of the liver through things like heavy alcohol use, using medications and drugs, and bad eating habits, especially an overconsumption of fats and heavy animal-based proteins, the liver can become overloaded and irritation can result. This results in an inflammatory response in the abominal cavity, which results in an accumulation of fluid (called ascites). As the retained fluids collect in the stomach area, the stomach will often begin to protrude outward, producing the appearance that is sometimes called a "beer belly". In women, the problem can get bad enough that the protruding belly makes them look pregnant when they are not. For people with this water weight deposition, weight loss can be frustrating because exercise will not "burn it off" - because it's not fat. Since natural weight loss approaches fail to get results in these situations, some people resort to diet drugs, which may work at first, but ultimately harm the liver even more and create even more abdominal water retention.

With liver-related water retention, many diet programs and weight loss aids also actually make things worse. Diets that are high in protein and fat, such as Atkin's, further overload the liver and create even more water retention. Some weight loss aids contain drugs or chemicals that the liver must process, and again, create even more liver irritation and subsequent water retention.

In addition to the water retention issue, good liver function is necessary for the proper production and/or activation of the hormones that stimulate fat burning. For instance, the liver is needed to convert the inactive form of thyroid hormone (T4) to the active form (T3). When the liver is overworked and cannot do the hormone conversions efficiently, the body cannot burn fat efficiently, no matter how much exercise you may do or what other natural weight loss steps you take.

The liver also produces a fat-burning hormone of its own, called insulin-like growth factor (IGF). IGF controls blood sugar during the relatively long-period that you go without eating during sleep. As your blood sugar level falls while you are sleeping, the liver produces IGF to burn fat reserves to mobilize stored energy. Again, if liver function is not as good as it should be, this hormone is not produced efficiently and you don't burn as much fat. The other thing that occurs is that your blood sugar will go lower than it should and you wake up in the morning feeling very fatigued and irritable.

At this point you may be wondering what steps you need to take to help improve liver function to help alleviate abdominal water retention and to help better activate your fat burning hormones to stimulate natural weight loss? To begin with, it is important to reduce the detoxification load on the liver. This means cutting back on alcohol and any unnecessary drugs and medications. If possible, I recommend avoiding alcohol and non-essential medications entirely for at least a few weeks to give the liver an opportunity to recover.

The next step is to clean up you diet to make things as easy as possible on the liver. Probably the simplest and most effective approach is to eat pretty much a vegetarian diet for 14 to 21 days, sticking to mostly fresh vegetables and fresh fruit and using beans, seeds, nuts, and nut and seed butters as your main protein sources. If you can't do that, it is advisable to at least cut out fried and greasy foods and high-fat meats for a while. The better your diet, the faster you'll lose the retained water in the abdomen and the faster you'll make real progress on losing weight.

There are various "liver de-tox" products on the market that contain some combination of herbs and/or nutrients that are reputed to be beneficial for the liver. These can be useful in more extreme cases or for those who simply aren't willing to take the dietary and other lifestyle measures just described. In my opinion, changing the diet and implementing the other natural weight loss lifestyle factors is a much more effective way to go, but using a liver detoxification product is probably better than doing nothing. Because some of these products contain herbs that can interact with certain prescription medications, it is strongly recommended that you consult with a physician or a pharmacist before using any of these products if you are on prescription drugs.

In addition to weight loss, as liver function improves, your skin usually becomes clearer and your mood and energy level will typically improve, especially in the morning. People with chronic headaches often notice that the headaches become less frequent and may go away altogether. In addition, pains in the right shoulder and shoulder blade area can be referred from the liver and some people experience relief of these pains as the health of the liver improves.

It should be noted that as the liver recovers and the body stops retaining water in the abdomen, you will typically lose weight very rapidly (it could be 5 pounds or more per day!) and you will need to urinate frequently (that's how the body gets rid of the excess water). Once the extra water is gone, the weight loss will slow down. If you continue on a natural weight loss program, a reasonable expectation after you have lost the water weight is about 1 to 2 pounds per week.

Weight Loss for Women Over 40 - Love Yourself First

If you are 40-something, you know that it is getting harder to manage your weight. This is true for most, but it doesnt mean you cannot still maintain a healthy weight.

First you may need to re-frame your outlook. If you are dreaming about your high school weight, you may need a reality check. For some, this may be possible, for others it may simply be unrealistic and unnecessary. When determining what your goal weight is, consider this: fi Calculate your BMI (see below). This is the best way to assess whether you really need to lose weight, or you just want to look better in your jeans. If your BMI is in the healthy range of 19-24, then you can be assured that your weight is not adversely affecting your health. If it is over 24, then you could reduce your risk for disease by losing a few pounds.

fi Love yourself first. If you think that losing fifteen pounds will solve all of your body image problems, you are probably wrong. Work with a therapist or life coach so that you can come to peace with who you are and the body shape you were born with. Try not to let your appearance be your biggest motivator to eat well and exercise. fi Consider inches, not just the scale. Take your waist, arm and thigh measurements now. Then compare every two weeks for three to four months after you have been exercising and eating better. You may not always see huge losses on the scale, but lost inches means lost fat and better health.

Secondly you need to make some changes in your eating habits. Most women at this age are pretty busy. They may be juggling a family, career and aging parents. This often adds up to skipping meals, eating junk food, and being dehydrated! Keep these tips in mind each day to get you out of a bad habit: fi Sit down and take a lunch break. While breakfast may be quick, lunch should not have to be on the run. Often we think that we are saving time by eating at our desks or in our car! But your body and mind need some downtime and a twenty to thirty minute break will likely leave you more focused and energized. Plus, sitting down will help you eat more slowly, which will help you eat less and stop when youre full.

fi Plan two to three snacks a day. If you work out of the home, bring two snacks with you each day. If you work at home, choose your snacks in the morning or the night before. You may even want to post a Healthy Snack List on your refrigerator to help you make good choices. Portions are important. Snack ideas: Low fat yogurt; 1-2 ounces pretzels; low fat string cheese with 6 wheat crackers; low fat granola or high fiber bar; 10 animal crackers and a glass of skim milk; a piece of fresh fruit or a cup of melon or berries; raw carrots; hummus with 6-8 wheat crackers; a glass of low fat chocolate milk. fi Consider keeping a food log. Writing down what we eat helps keep us accountable for all the little tidbits and go into our mouth. fi Be patient. Weight loss after forty is slower than it was before. You have to simply accept this. Make small changes, stick with them, and you will eventually see results.

Finally, exercise is more important than ever. Again, with the busy and often content lives that 40-something women may lead, they may get relaxed on exercise. Its never too late to start an exercise program. Check with your doctor first to find out if there should be any restrictions, then shoot for exercising 3-5 times a week. While this may seem like a lot, keep in mind, household activities count too. So consider more formal exercise (like jogging, walking, weight lifting) to be done 3-4 times a week.

The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and American Heart Association (AHA) have released updated physical activity recommendations for adults and older adults. The recommendations are an update and clarification of the 1995 recommendation on the types and amounts of physical activity needed by healthy adults and older adults to improve and maintain health. Specifically, the guidelines recommend all healthy adults aged 18 to 65 years need moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity for a minimum of 30 minutes on five days each week or vigorous-intensity aerobic physical activity for a minimum of 20 minutes on three days each week. So the good news is that once you increase your intensity, you can get by with 3 days a week of activity. Keep these ideas in mind when planning out your activities: fi If you are not active at all, start walking. A nice walk outside each morning will be a great way to start your day. Even if you only have time for a 30-minute walk, start there. Some activity is always better than no activity.

fi If you are already a walker, try jogging. Increasing the intensity of any activity will help boost your metabolism. Start by jogging for 30 seconds, then one minute, and continue alternating minutes of jogging with walking. Before you know it you will be jogging two miles. fi Dont hire it all out. Often individuals may have a comfortable lifestyle at this point and be able to hire folks to do the weeding, mulching, dig a new garden, mowing, or housework. Consider doing some of these old chores yourself. Shoveling mulch builds muscle and burns lots of calories! fi Try weight lifting. Weight training doesnt mean you have to turn into a body builder nor does it mean you have to go to a gym. If you want to join a gym, thats fine. It is a good idea to get some initial training from a personal trainer to be sure you are doing the activities with good form, but once you have the form down, you can easily work out at home. Invest in a set of light hand weights (usually 2, 3 and 5 pounds each) and start doing repetitions. We lose muscle as we age and weight lifting is one way to build some back and burn more calories.

Take your weight loss goals one at a time and you will see results eventually. In the meantime, think about your short-term goals and how eating healthy foods and using your muscles keeps your body well. Before you know it you will be inches smaller and a few pounds lighter

Choosing Between Fitness Gyms

All fitness gyms are not created equal and so how do you decide which one to join? Only a quality fitness gym can give you what you need to stay with a life long exercise program. Heres the checklist to decide which fitness gym is right for you.

The Fitness Gyms:

* Before joining any gym make an appointment to tour the facilities.
*
* Visit the gym during the hours you will be using it and check to see if there are long waiting lines for the equipment you will want to use.
*
* Check the facility for proper ventilation, cleanliness, and maintenance. Notice the atmosphere what the comfort level is.
* Notice the staff and other member. Does it seem like a friendly group?
*
* Is the gym a member of the IHRSA which is the world's leading trade association for gyms and health clubs?

The Staff At The Fitness Gyms
* Is the staff motivated competent, and service-oriented and knowledgeable?
*
* Do they have college degrees in physical education, kinesiology, or exercise physiology?
*
* Do they have trained professionals on staff in the activities in which you wish to participate?
*
* Are they certified? This gives you a great deal of assurance. Some of the most respected certification comes from the Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine (NACSM). American Council on Exercise(ACE), American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the Institute for Aerobics Research, the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA), and the Northland Regional, or the International Dance Exercise Association (IDEA).
*
* Is there an orientation on how to use equipment properly and safely before you start working out?
*
* Is there a trainer on staff to help you set up your program in the beginning?
Different Agreements At Different Fitness Gyms
* Examine the contract very carefully and make sure all agreements are in writing including verbal agreements.
*
* Understand the length of the term. Is it an annual membership, or a month-to-month membership?
*
* It is standard policy to offer a "cooling off" period which is usually the three days after signing up for a membership, during which you may cancel the agreement without penalty.
*
* Check with the Better Business Bureau to see if there have been any complaints filed against the club.

Why Does Quality Make The Difference in Fitness Gyms?
IHRSA members - consider it their mission to enhance the quality of human life through physical fitness and sports. They provide first-rate facilities, programs and instruction. They also subscribe to IHRSA's Code of Conduct, pledging to:
* Open their membership to persons of all creeds, races, and places of national origin.
*
* Treat each member as though the success of their club depends on that individual alone.
*
* Are the facilities and programs done with the safety of the members in mind?
*
* Do they do their part to expand awareness of the benefits of regular exercise?
*
* Agree to conduct their business in a manner that commands the respect of the public for their industry and the goals they seek to achieve. Make sure you know what each of the fitness gyms has to offer before you make your final decision.

Weight Loss Secrets

Survey a group of people who are overweight on why they failed and you will learn one of two things:

Either a/ They were not able to stick to a program or b/ they did lose weight but gained it back.

These two problems are faced universally by almost everyone who attempts to lose weight. Interestingly enough, both of these problems are related to human behavior more than diet or exercise programs.

The problem lies in the fact that individuals are expected to follow some fad diet and include an exercise program. This is contrary to a lifetime of ingrained habits.

In order to solve this problem it is necessary to create a complete lifestyle shift, or to create new habits. The best method for eliminating bad or old habits is to make new ones.

Everyone knows how to lose weight. The answer is to eat sensibly and to exercise. The truth is that most people don't know how to do this.

The reason for this is simple. No matter how much they diet or how motivated they are, most people don't know the secrets to losing weight and keeping it off. So, what are these secrets?

Here are some of the secrets to losing weight and keep it off.

The very first thing is to prioritize. When you set this as a goal, it should be in the forefront of your mind. Everything that you do should contribute to your goal. By the way, weight loss and improved health should be the benefits of your goal, not the goal itself. Your goal should be an improved lifestyle and new habits.

Incorporate physical activity into your daily routine. Muscle burns more calories around the clock. By getting in shape it will be easier to lose weight and to keep it off.

Fad diets will not allow you to keep the weight off. A healthy lifestyle will not only allow you to lose weight without obsessing about it, but it will keep the weight off forever.

Be sensible about what you eat. Keep your kitchen well grounded. It should contain only the foods that support your lifestyle. If you want to eat something else, go out to a restaurant and have a nice meal. If you don't diet then you don't have to cheat.

Realizing and defining the problem is half the battle. Look at the foods that you eat everyday that contribute both to your weight and health problems. Processed foods, foods with too much salt or sugar not only contribute to excess weight, they make us lethargic and moody.

There is that new advice about eating more and smaller meals. Rubbish. You will never give your digestive system a break. What you require is three, healthy meals per day. Chewing well will help you absorb more nutrition from your food and enable you to be satisfied with less.

Follow what is quickly becoming universal, the 80/20 rule. If you are careful about what you consume 80% of the time, the other 20% will be less of a problem.

Remember, losing weight and improving your health is not about dieting and going to the gym. Essentially it is your present lifestyle that got you where you are now. Transform your lifestyle and your weight loss will be effortless and the weight will stay off forever.

Weight Loss Supplements - The Final Key to Success

Losing weight involves consuming less calories than you burn. However, that is easier said than done. For many people, a healthy diet and exercise helps them burn enough calories to lose the weight and keep it off. Yet due to genetics or perhaps years of bad habits, diet and exercise alone may not be enough for some people. In this case, a weight loss supplement may be the final key to successful weight loss.

After determining a healthy diet (try a nutritionist) and exercise plan (try a personal trainer), following these plans should show results after 2 to 4 weeks of discipline. If you are severely obese or nothing seems to be working, a weight loss supplement can speed up your metabolism, or at least inhibit your need to continually snack on processed foods. These can give you the final edge if the last few pounds wont come off, or work as a placebo so you work harder to lose the weight.

Weight loss supplements are available in several forms, including prescription, over-the-counter drugs, and herbal supplements. All diet pills are regulated by the FDA. The most popular products work by suppressing your appetite, raising your metabolism levels, or blocking fat from digesting in your body. Most products contain a combination of herbs, vitamins, and drugs that your body uses to burn fat more efficiently. Each product produces different results for each individual, and one type of weight loss supplement is not known to be superior.

However, an appetite suppressant may be useful for anyone trying to lose weight since most of us overeat. With the availability of food and advertising, it can be difficult to eat smaller portions. By finishing off more food on your plate, or nibbling before dinner, you may be unconsciously eating more, and gaining more weight as time goes on. It can be easy to pack on a few pounds each year, which can easily translate into a 30 pound bulge within a few years. Using an appetite suppressant or caloric restrictor such as Akavar 20/50 can prevent you from overeating and gaining weight. It can also help you eat less each day, so you burn more calories than you consumer and lose weight. Try also to drink more water and eat a balanced diet to make the weight loss supplement as effective as possible.
